Alex Chinneck’s levitating building installation ‘take my thunder, but don’t steal my lightning’ is on show in Covent Garden
One of the best things about London is its place in the art world. As well as being home to some of the world’s top art galleries, it is also a magnet to artists, with many taking their creations to the streets of the capital.
For three weeks in October, London-based artist Alex Chinneck’s installation Take My Lightning But Don’t Steal My Thunder is on show in Covent Garden. I went to visit it the day it opened and have also passed by several times since.
The installation is designed to look like a piece of the iconic Covent Garden market hall, but it’s as if a piece of the building has broken free and is levitating in mid-air.
- Take My Lightning But Don’t Steal My Thunder runs at Covent Garden Piazza from 2 – 24 October 2014. Open 24 hours. Nearest tube: Covent Garden. For more information on Alex Chinneck, visit his official website.
